Scrapbooking is a fun and easy hobby that has been gaining momentum in recent years. Many people have wondered what to do with multiple boxes full of old pictures that may have collected on their shelves over time, or old photo albums from beloved relatives. Or people may be looking for a way to show off digital photos instead of just store them on disks or drives and forgetting about them. Scrapbooking has found an answer for these questions.

Many hobby stores stock dozens of kinds of scrapbooking paper and items designed for scrapbook embellishments. You can find stickers for all kinds of occasions. Stamps and embossers are also options for adding detail to photos and pages. Specialty pens and markers are available as are premade pages and templates. There are even “how to” books available that will teach you about everything from using different lettering styles to achieving an attractive page layout. There are scissors that are designed to cut precise shapes into your borders and rolls of border tape. Whatever you can imagine can be purchased in a store somewhere.

All that is really required for scrapbooking, however, is some time, some photos and some creativity. It is easy to come up with all sorts of scrapbooking embellishments while spending little to no money. You can cut shapes of all kinds into your borders yourself with a regular old fashioned scissors. Lots of different and inexpensive papers can be used for backgrounds. The theater bill from a play you attended can make a great backdrop to pictures from that event. Various seasonal wrapping papers can be cut into cute shapes that look festive and fun in your book. Greeting cards can be saved and cut apart for different color matting, or for their individual design elements like the flowers or the verses on them. If you are scrapbooking for a new baby, all of the baby shower cards, wrapping paper, ribbons, and invitations will give you lots of great materials to be creative with. Making a scrap book using these kinds of materials will also provide a truly unique finished product. There will be no other book out there that looks like yours.

So, go ahead and get scrapbooking. It is a relaxing hobby that doesn’t require a big financial investment, and when you are done, you will have a great family keepsake or gift. Your only limits are your own creativity.
