Reasons to Have a Pantry Cabinet

Pantry cabinets are designed to hold dry foods and canned goods. Whether they are a unit built into the rest of your cabinetry or a separate piece of kitchen furniture, there are many attributes that make them most suitable for this task and why people use a kitchen pantry cabinet rather than a regular cabinet to store food most of the time. But just because the pantry is designed to hold foods, that doesn’t mean you have to have one. You could use any area of your kitchen for storing cans and dry food containers. Nevertheless, most people do have a dedicated kitchen pantry and there are several reasons why.

First, having one central area to store all of your canned goods and dry preserved foods that is large means that you can buy more food at one time. Limiting the number of trips we make to the grocery store not only saves us time, but money as well when you factor in the cost of gas and the discounts you get for buying in bulk. Cutting down on the number of trips you make to the store will also cut down on impulse buying and you will end up using more of the food in your house and wasting less which will also save money. Many times, people buy fresh produce or meats and then do not cook them soon enough and they have to be thrown out. Using dry foods and canned goods means that the food will not spoil as quickly and you will not be wasting as much.

Another advantage to storing food in a pantry style cabinet rather than a regular cabinet is that your foods can be better organized in there. Pantry cabinets have several small and shallow shelves rather than one or two large deep ones. Since the shelves are not packed with many items deep, you can easily see everything you have in your cabinet at a glance. No longer will you have to be on your hands and knees digging into the back of the cabinet to find that can of beans. Everything will be easy to fin which will save you time while cooking and will save you money because you will not be making unnecessary duplicate buys. Pantry shelving also helps you to stay better organized which can save time as well.

Finally, homeowners should have a pantry cabinet in their kitchen so that food stays good longer. Food stores will last longer if they are kept in a cool, dry, and dark place. If you store your canned goods or dry foods on shelving in the garage there are several problems with that. First, the open shelving does not ensure a dry or dark place. Second, the wide temperature fluctuations outside will make the food spoil faster.
