Does Your Dog Scratch A lot

Dog ScratchIf your dog is incessantly scratching then maybe there is a problem other than fleas.  It seems like everyone thinks that when a dog has an itching problem it is caused by the bites of fleas or from flea allergies.  While this may be true, another common problem could be seborrhea or psoriasis.  Both of these skin ailments are fairly common in humans, and you have probably heard about them, but did you know they also can affect any furry pet such as dogs, cats, horses, or rodents?

Seborrhea causes itching, flaky skin that either shows extra dryness or extra oiliness depending on the breed.  If your pet is scratching more than normal then you may have this problem and it needs to be dealt with because it will not go away by itself.  Malaseb Shampoo is a medicated pet shampoo that can effectively deal with the actual causes of seborrhea.

The most common cause of this skin inflammation is an allergic reaction to a fungus, bacteria, or yeast that may be living at the base of the pet’s coat.  Malaseb has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial agents which rid the coat of these allergens.  It also can remove a yeast infestation that may be driving the pet crazy with itching.  For best results you should start by rinsing the pet thoroughly and getting them wet down to their skin.  Then apply the shampoo and rub in for at least ten minutes.  Again, be sure it reaches the skin as that is where the problem lies.  Then rinse the animal thoroughly with lots of water because you don’t want the shampoo to stay on the skin.  For the best results, you also want to treat between the toes, under the tail, and around the mouth as these areas are very susceptible to attack.  Be careful to keep it out of the eyes, ears, and mouth though as it can cause burning.

You can treat twice a week and then once the condition is relieved every week or two.  If you don’t see improvement after a couple of treatments then visit your veterinarian.
