If your home is in need of some updating and you plan on doing multiple projects, you need to do some planning so you can reduce your costs. Whatever your budget, the less you spend on a particular room the more you can do in other rooms. By doing your makeovers one room at a time you will be able to get your entire house done before you know it. By keeping your costs down you will be able to accomplish this much faster. Here are some tips on how to do this.
1. Convince yourself that you enjoy painting — Painting is something that is not difficult. Many people do not get excited about the thought of starting a painting project but when you are finished, not only will you be happy with the improved look, you will feel a sense of accomplishment and your pocketbook will not be lighter from hiring someone else to do the job. If you do not have much experience painting then I recommend starting small. Pick a low traffic room to get started. Once you get comfortable you can move on to some of your main rooms.
2. Buy a new ceiling fan and put it up yourself — This is a great way to upgrade a room. It is also very affordable. Hampton Bay Lighting has a great selection and the prices are very good. This is a basic skill that you can learn to do yourself. With the easy to follow instructions and help from the nice employees at your local store you can do this without a problem.
3. Find some new wallpaper that goes well with your room and put it up yourself — Check out the latest in black and white wallpaper. This can really update the look of a room and it goes well with any colors you have in the room now. Learning to hang it yourself is really very easy. It is one of those things that you get better at as you go along. By the time you finish your first room you will have a lot of confidence moving on to the next one.
Don’t be afraid to try and do some of these things yourself. If you have never done it before it can be a learning experience for you. Once you realize that you can do it you will have that skill forever and you will also have the confidence to do more things yourself. So save yourself some money and go for it!
